Pageflake for Simpy

Pageflakes folks were kind enough to build the very first Simpy flake. This flake looks roughly like this:
Simpy flake
This flake can show you:
  • everyone's recent links, optionally filtered by a tag
  • your recent links, optionally filtered by a tag
Here is what these options look like:

If you haven't heard of Pageflakes before, it's a nice free service that lets you assemble your own custom home page or dashboard using a number of provided flakes. Check it out, add that Simpy flake, and enjoy.

I'll be upgrading some of Simpy's backend components tonight, starting at 23:00 EDT. It should be over half an hour after that. Thank you for your patience.

German FeedFlare Unit For Simpy

Ralph Inselsbacher is one of the several active Simpy users I really like. Why? Because he helps me make Simpy better for everyone by contributing external pieces to it. About a month ago he created the first FeedFlare Unit for Simpy, and I just learned that he created the German version! Thanks again, Ralph!

Trivia: Simpy's web log analysis software includes a report for the 'hl' field in the query string of Google searches. Anyone can guess what the top language is. German ('de') is number two! What languages do you think are in spots 3, 4, and 5? For me the big surprise is the language in spot number 7, but if somebody wants to try to guess that, go ahead, I don't want to spoil it!

Survey: Tagging Websites / Simpy

Last week two professors from the Baruch College located in New York City emailed about a survey. The two professors are from the Statistics and Computer Information Systems department of the Zicklin School of Business at the Baruch College. The survey is about your use of "tagging websites", and they would like as many Simpy users to take it as possible. The survey is completely anonymous (I took it first, to make sure there is nothing unusual in it), and it takes only about 5 minutes.

IMPORTANT: The aggregate results will be shared with me, which will help me improve Simpy and make it more useful to you.

If you are a Simpy user, the survey is at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=672581974055. If you are not a Simpy user, please do not take the survey.

Easter Spammer

How appropriate is it to find somebody who looks like a "religious spammer" in Simpy for Easter? I clicked through one of his links (they all point to the same site/blog), and saw this:
Nice typo in the blog title. And nice SQL. For those wondering how Simpy stores its users' tags, it's not quite like this.

The Unusual Suspect

I've been a bit slow with releasing of several new features that are waiting in the pipeline nearly finished. The reason for this slowness is this 10 days old beastie:

However, for the geeks reading this, I'm about to merge the production branch with the development one (HEAD) in the source code repository, which means the new release is only a "QA time" away.

People-contributed Simpy Bookmarklets

A couple of people recently wrote about various Simpy bookmarklets. Kpjas wrote about it here, and Don contributed 4 of his time-saving bookmarklets for Simpy. This goes well with the Super Fast Simpy This bookmarklet written by Benjamin. Thank you, folks!
