Simpy-Java API Version 1.3 Available

As if he knew about Simpy's recent birthday, David Czarnecki of Blojsom sent me an email earlier and pointed me to his new release of Simpy-java - the Java client for Simpy's REST API. Thank you, David!

Happy Third Birthday Simpy

It's been too quiet on this blog. Nobody liked quit blogs, so here is a little something to fill the void. Did you know that it has been over three years since Simpy came to life? Yes, earlier this month Simpy quietly celebrated its third birthday! As such, Simpy is one of the oldest bookmarking services, as you can see on Philipp Keller's timeline in his Tag history and gartners hype cycles post. I'm looking forward to Simpy's next birthday. Cake, cake, cake!

AOL's Funny SMTP Message

AOL has some funny SMTP servers:

<got-to-hide-the-username@aol.com>: host mailin-01.mx.aol.com[205.188.156.185] said: 550 We would love to have gotten this email to got-to-hide-the-username@aim.com. But, your recipient never logged onto their free AIM Mail account. Please contact them and let them know that they're missing out on all the super features offered by AIM Mail. And by the way, they're also missing out on your email. Thanks. (in reply to RCPT TO command)

Great, in-SMTP-bounce AOL service promotion.

Digg - Only 30 GB of Data

I just came across the How Digg.com uses the LAMP stack to scale upward article that states: "Today, Digg.com boasts 100 servers scattered in multiple data centers that host a total of 30GB of data...". Somehow this looks rather suspicious. Only 30 GB of data? Can't be! I think Simpy has more than that. Digg must have a lot more data! No?

Smarky Goes Live!

I was very excited when Andu released his Firefox extension for Simpy last week. This week there is more exciting news! If you've looked at Simpy's help page recently, perhaps you spotted a new entry in the "Browser Extensions" section" - Smarky! If you use Firefox and Simpy, you ought to try Smarky! It's a wonderful Firefox extension that lives in the browser sidebar, just like regular Firefox bookmarks, but it actually keeps your bookmarks both locally in your browser AND in Simpy. When you save a new bookmark in your browser via Smarky, it will transparently save that bookmark in your Simpy account! This way, you can have your bookmarks both in your browser when you are working on your own computer, and you can access all your bookmarks via simpy.com when you are at somebody else's computer. Smarky offers a LOT more, though, so please do give it a try and let John or me know what you think! Feedback!
