Sino Preview with Screenshots

A little bird from Germany named Benjamin tells me a nice application will be coming to us from Germany in about a month. The application's name is Sino, which comes from Simpy Notes. Sino brings your Simpy Notes to your desktop (I think this will run on Windows, OSX, and Linux), lets you find previously saved notes, edit existing notes, and add new ones, all from your desktop. I believe note syncing is also going to be added before the release. The application will be released as open-source and distributed as part of the SimpyTools project.

Sparky Sparks Mozilla.org

After I posted about Sparky, the Alexa plugin for Firefox, I realized that the best site to check to see the effect of Sparky on Alexa's traffic numbers and charts for sites with a high percentage of Firefox users is..... mozilla.org, the home of Firefox, of course. And voila, mozilla.org through Alexa's new eyes:

Sparky - Alexa Firefox Plugin

Amazingly enough, after 10 years of service, Alexa just released Sparky, the Alexa plugin for Firefox. As the chart below shows, the word has started to spread

Since Simpy has a decent percentage of Firefox users, I wonder how much and if that will have any impact on Simpy's numbers on Alexa. I post about Alexa on this blog all the time - just enter 'alexa' in the search box in the top-right corner of http://blog.simpy.com/ and have fun reading!

I have to comment on the name, Sparky. It reminds me of Simpy's Smarky. Cute.

Netlog - New and Very Popular Social Network

Interestingly enough, despite the major hype, so far Pownce didn't take off, at least not compared to the service it was trying to beat, Twitter.

Well, here is another relatively new service that caught my eye recently (after I got spammed with invitations to the service to be somebody's "friend"), but that I have not seen covered anywhere before - Netlog. I never heard of it before, so I was amazed to see how popular it is and how quickly it reached that popularity. See the charts below.

Have you heard of Netlog before? It seems to be targeted at Euro crowd, just like Bebo and Xing. The traffic seems to have plateaued, but it is still impressive. Its current traffic was reached in the second half of April. That is some pretty fast service scaling!

UPDATE: Ah, ah, ah. So Netlog is not that young after all. Netlog is the new name of a site/service formerly known as Facebox (hmmmm). Here is the switch:

The service claims over 20 million users in Europe (but what about the resto del mondo, people???)

Banning Competition

I came across a site (a very expensive commercial web-based service) that had this on its login/registration page:

You may not access or use the Site if you are a competitor or an employee, officer, director, shareholder, contractor, agent or affiliate of a competitor of XXXX, Inc. ("XXXX");

Funny, like that will really stop anyone.

Pownce vs. Twitter Traffic Charts

Guess what? I don't use Twitter. Guess what else? I haven't even been to Pownce.com yet. But I like charts and traffic comparisons, so here are some traffic charts:
